The town of Bristol was initially settled in 1830, and was named in 1836 for some of its earliest settlers George and Lester Bristol. The town ceased to exist when most of the town of Bristol was incorporated into the current village of Bristol in December of 2009, and the rest incorporated into the Village of Pleasant Prairie.
The current Village of Bristol a total area of 9.03 square miles, of which, 8.91 square miles of it is land and 0.12 square miles is water. The population is just over 2,500 people.


Bristol has several neighborhoods and has many agricultural properties as well as multi acre residences. Some of the activities include Bristol Progress Days, and the Bristol Renaissance Faire (RenFaire) the largest such Fair in the United States.
